Amazing 5/6

From the Teachers
Term 4 is already shaping up to be an exciting and busy term for our Year 5/6 students! We are looking forward to another term filled with new experiences and special memories as we begin our final stretch of the school year.
This Friday, we wish our boys’ and girls’ softball teams all the best as they progress through to the next stage of competition. We also have plenty of exciting events coming up, including Grandparents Afternoon in Week 3, the Art Show in Week 5 and the Colour Run in Week 7. Bike Ed will also begin in Week 5, an opportunity the 5/6 students are looking forward to greatly!
Our Year 5 students will soon begin preparing for their 2027 leadership speeches, while our Year 6 students look ahead to their final weeks of primary school, with graduation preparations gradually getting underway. Our students are looking forward to making the most of every opportunity this term and finishing this wonderful year on a positive note!
Learning Focuses
Literacy
This week, our Year 5/6 students have been putting the finishing touches on their persuasive writing unit, preparing and presenting speeches about protecting significant environmental landmarks across Victoria including Port Phillip Bay, the Grampians, the Victorian Alps, and more! Students have been constructing convincing arguments, finding reliable evidence to support their opinions, and using persuasive language to engage and persuade their audience. Next week, students will dive into an exciting new class novel and novel study, exploring the imaginative world of science fiction and taking their thinking to an ‘out of this world’ level!
Mathematics
In Year 5, students have recently completed their learning about measurement, exploring length, mass and capacity. They are now moving into data, where they will develop their skills in collecting, organising, representing and interpreting information.
In Year 6, students are continuing to work on their data investigation projects. They have been applying their mathematical skills to explore data, analyse results and draw conclusions, demonstrating their ability to think critically, interpret information and make generalisations based on their findings.
‘Share the Dignity’ Donations:
Thank you to those who have already donated to Ramona and Jade’s ‘Share the Dignity’ charity project. Your generosity is greatly appreciated and will make a meaningful difference to those in need. The girls are still accepting donations of period products (unopened), tote bags in good condition, shampoo and conditioner, toothbrushes, deodorant (roll-on), soap or body wash, sunscreen, cosmetics, stationery, socks, lip gloss, books, and other helpful items. Each classroom has a crate for donations. Thank you! https://sharethedignity.org.au/what-we-do/its-in-the-bag
