Wonderful 1

One-derful Class Chronicles
Term 4 Week 2 2026 - Friday 16th September
🌟 What We Have Been Up To
Welcome back to Term 4! We hope all our families enjoyed a safe, restful and relaxing break and had the opportunity to spend some quality time together. We are excited to welcome everyone back for our final term of Year 1! There are lots of fun learning experiences, exciting activities and special events to look forward to as we finish off the year.
This term, students will explore persuasive writing, learning how to share their opinions, give reasons and convince others using persuasive language. In Mathematics, we will be investigating data by collecting information, creating graphs and interpreting our findings. In Science, students will explore pushes and pulls through hands-on experiments, discovering how different forces can make objects move, stop or change direction.
We are looking forward to a fantastic final term filled with learning, laughter and opportunities to celebrate how much the students have grown and achieved throughout their Year 1 journey!
A friendly reminder to please send through a family photo for our Family Wall if you haven’t already. Thank you!
As always, if you ever need anything, please do not hesitate to get in touch with me at madeleine.simos@education.vic.gov.au.
Have a wonderful holiday break! 🌟

Reading & Writing
Students will begin a persuasive text unit using engaging picture books such as I Wanna Iguana, A New Room for William and I Wanna Go Home. We will explore how authors use persuasive language to convince their audience and identify the reasons and arguments characters use to support their point of view. Students will practise sharing their opinions, giving reasons and using persuasive language before creating their own persuasive texts.
Mathematics
Students will be exploring location and time through a range of hands-on activities and investigations. They will develop their understanding of positional language by describing where objects are located, following directions and giving instructions to move from one place to another. Students will also explore time by reading analogue clocks to the hour and half-hour, sequencing daily events and comparing the duration of different activities. They will practise using everyday language to describe when events occur and develop their understanding of how we measure and organise time.
Science
Students will begin our Push and Pull unit, exploring how pushes and pulls can make objects move, stop or change direction. They will investigate how different forces affect the movement of objects through hands-on experiments and observations. Students will develop an understanding of how the strength and direction of a push or pull can influence how an object moves.
