Year 12 Legal Studies Excursion – Victorian Parliament and County Court

On Thursday 23rd of July, our Year 12 Legal Studies students participated in an engaging educational excursion to into Melbourne, visiting the Victorian Parliament and the County Court of Victoria.

The day began with a guided tour of Parliament House, where students gained valuable insight into the history, structure, and operation of Victoria's Parliament. Students then took part in an interactive role-play based on the Crimes Amendment (Bullying) Bill 2011 (Brodie's Law). Through this activity, they experienced the parliamentary process firsthand and explored how law reform responds to significant social issues.

Following their visit to Parliament, students attended the County Court, where they observed live court proceedings. Watching criminal and civil matters unfold in a real courtroom provided students with a deeper understanding of courtroom procedures and the important roles played by judges, barristers, solicitors, court staff, juries, and witnesses within the Victorian legal system.

The excursion provided an invaluable opportunity for students to connect their classroom learning with real world legal processes. It reinforced key concepts studied throughout VCE Legal Studies Units 3 and 4, deepening their understanding of the Victorian Parliament, the Victorian courts and the practical operation of the justice system.

Thank you to our Year 12 students for representing the College so positively throughout the day. Their engagement, maturity, and respectful conduct made the excursion a rewarding and enjoyable learning experience.
