Backflips Against Bullying

The flips were fast, the energy was high and the message was powerful when our Year 7 and 8 students took part in the Backflips Against Bullying incursion on Wednesday 15 July.

The program combined impressive acrobatics, acting, humour and plenty of audience participation to explore the serious issue of bullying in a way that was engaging and memorable for our students.

From the beginning, the performers had the students completely involved. There was plenty of laughter, excitement and nervous anticipation as volunteers were invited to participate in challenges and demonstrations throughout the show.

One of the most memorable moments came when a performer successfully flipped over a line of 12 excited students and one very nervous teacher! The audience watched in anticipation before erupting in cheers when the impressive flip was completed safely.

Students were also invited to nominate teachers to become involved, with Mr Moyle and Mr Njuho receiving the most enthusiastic support. Both were very good sports and helped create another memorable moment for the students.

While the acrobatics were certainly a highlight, the program also delivered an important message about bullying, resilience and the responsibility we all share to look out for one another.

Through relatable scenarios, students were encouraged to consider the impact bullying can have, the importance of speaking up and the positive difference bystanders can make. They were also reminded that asking for help is a sign of strength and that trusted adults are available to support them.

The combination of high-impact performances and practical advice ensured that the message was not lost among the excitement. Students were engaged from beginning to end and left with clear strategies for responding to bullying and supporting their peers.

It was a fun, energetic and valuable experience that reinforced the importance of kindness, courage and creating a school culture in which everyone feels safe, valued and included.
