From the Principal: Lakeside College Crest

Dear Families,

I am pleased to share an exciting development for our college community.

Over time, we have discussed the idea of developing a college crest, something that could more visibly and traditionally express who we are, what we value, and what our purpose is as a college. I’m delighted to let you know that this vision has now come to life.

With the support and expertise of Mark Burford, our Marketing and Communications Manager, we have been able to reflect our creativity and bring clarity to the process. Mark has worked closely with us, creating more than 25 drafts and working through three rounds of board feedback to shape a crest that meaningfully captures both our heritage and our future direction.

I am pleased to confirm that our crest was formally approved at Board level, and we are proud to begin incorporating it into our new website and broader college branding. I would like to reassure families that the introduction of the college crest will not affect student uniforms. Our existing Lakeside logo will remain on all college uniforms and continue to be a valued and recognisable part of our identity. Over time, families will see the crest incorporated into official college communications, our website and formal college events, where it will serve as a traditional symbol of our shared identity, one that honours our past, reflects our present and points confidently towards our future. 

At the heart of the crest is our mission statement: 

Within a Christian environment, we develop lifelong learners who strive for excellence, serve and care for others.

Learn, Care, Achieve.

Three simple words viewed in the light of Christ unite us, guide us and provide clarity in all we do.

An essential part of the crest brief was to incorporate the “Lakeside Cross” in the first quadrant, symbolising the importance of our history and our identity as a Christ-centred community. As a Lutheran college, our mission is grounded in faith, recognising that each person is created and deeply valued by God. It also reflects our belief that education is not only about academic growth, but about developing character, purpose and a life of service. 

Next to the Lakeside cross, the Open Book symbolises “Learn”, reflecting our commitment to knowledge, excellence in education and the lifelong pursuit of learning.

In the bottom left, a Heart in two Hands symbolises ‘Care’: We care for ourselves, each other, and the wider community

The Laurel represents ‘Achieve’, signifying perseverance, accomplishment, and striving for excellence. 

Finally, Learn, Care & Achieve is inscribed at the base of the crest in Latin, the traditional language of education & scholarship.

These elements together tell the story of the holistic education we seek to provide for every student. This is an important step in strengthening how we present and understand ourselves as a college. More than a visual mark, the crest is a statement of who we are and what we stand for.
