Performing Arts
The Instrumental Music, Vocal, Drama and Dance programs commence this week.
We hope all students are prepared for their lessons, with their files, music and instruments ready for a wonderful term of learning, enjoyment and achievement.
Throughout the term, students will be working towards a range of exciting performance opportunities, providing them with the chance to showcase their skills, creativity and talents. We look forward to seeing their confidence grow and celebrating their successes along the way.

Terms 3 and 4, students will explore the exciting worlds of Music and Drama. They will listen to, perform, and reflect on a variety of musical works while also discovering the creative possibilities of drama. This will be a wonderful opportunity for students to use their imagination, voices, and bodies as they participate in engaging and enjoyable activities. Through collaboration, creativity, and self-expression, students will build confidence and have fun working together with their peers. We look forward to an exciting and inspiring semester of learning!
The Prep students listened to the story behind the music composed by Leo Delibes which was part of a ballet named 'Coppelia' which was performed in Paris in 1870. The ballet tells the story of Dr. Coppelius, an eccentric inventor who creates a life-sized doll named Coppelia. For the scene featuring the music, 'Waltz of the Dolls' the dolls are brought to life.

The Year One students listened to the popular, 'Morning Mood' composed by Edvard Grieg which captures the visual imagery of the sunrise of a new day. It has a serene sound and creates a calming feeling highlighting the sounds of either the flute or the oboe.
This music has been widely used in films, commercials, and even video games! Students listened to the tune used in the Minecraft Note Blocks game.

The Year Two students studied the works of the famous, Johann Sebastian Bach. Students listened to, 'Jesu, Joy of Man's Desiring' 1723 which is a joyful piece of music typically played at Christmas time, celebrating Mary giving birth to baby Jesus! I explained to students that this has been a popular choice at weddings as it is such a happy tune so sometimes music can have different meanings for different audiences.
This is yet another classical piece which has been used by popular animations, so we listened to the more upbeat version of Bach's tune in the cartoon, 'Bluey.' This episode is named, 'Stickbird' and shows that classical music has a place in life today!
