Book Week 2026: A Symphony of Stories

What a wonderful week of reading, imagination, and celebration we enjoyed during this year's Book Week! Inspired by the Children's Book Council of Australia's 2026 theme, "Symphony of Stories," students and staff came together to share in the joy of books and storytelling through a variety of exciting activities across the school.

Throughout the week, our community embraced the opportunity to celebrate the power of stories. The Primary Library became a hub of excitement during recess as students gathered for our Daily Reading Moments, where special guest readers shared some of their favourite books. It was lovely to see students from both Primary and Secondary enjoying these moments together and being reminded of the simple pleasure of listening to a great story.

Students also enjoyed browsing the display of new library books, discovering fresh titles to add to their reading lists. Alongside this, the staff and senior student book recommendation display sparked plenty of conversations about favourite authors, memorable characters, and books worth sharing.

One of the most popular activities was the Where is the Green Sheep? Hunt, which had students eagerly searching every corner of the school in the hope of spotting a hidden green sheep and winning a prize from Ms Landy. There was plenty of enthusiasm and excitement as students took part in the challenge.

Our cosy Reading Nook quickly became a favourite lunchtime destination. From Monday to Thursday, students brought along books, cushions, and blankets and settled into a welcoming reading space in the Auditorium and Living Room. With a warm cup of hot chocolate in hand, many students enjoyed taking time out of their busy day to simply relax and read.

Secondary students also had the opportunity to showcase their creativity in the 300 Words in 30 Minutes Writing Competition. Participants rose to the challenge of crafting engaging stories with a protagonist, conflict, and resolution in just 300 words. The quality of the entries was impressive, demonstrating the imagination and writing talent of our students. The winners are Oliver Reith and Gabrielle Thomson. Congratulations!

Wednesday brought extra excitement during the Primary Assembly with a fun-filled game of Where's Wally?, organised by our student prefects. Students eagerly searched for the iconic character and enjoyed the chance to win chocolate prizes.

The highlight of the week was undoubtedly our Whole School Dress-Up Day. The school was transformed as students and staff arrived dressed as their favourite book characters, bringing beloved stories to life in colourful and creative ways. From classic literary heroes to modern favourites, the costumes were fantastic and reflected the enthusiasm our students have for reading. The Book Parade was a wonderful celebration of imagination, and it was fantastic to see the whole school community joining in the fun. Congratulations to all students and staff who participated, and especially to those who were recognised for their outstanding costumes.

Book Week was a joyful reminder of the important role reading plays in inspiring creativity, building knowledge, and connecting us through shared stories. Thank you to Ms Landy, our library team, student leaders, and staff who worked hard to make the week such a memorable success.

We loved seeing our students immerse themselves in the world of books and look forward to continuing to nurture a love of reading throughout the year.
