Visual Arts

Year 7

Year 7 Visual Arts students have just completed their study of significant Modern art movements, where they have taken inspiration from the style of each artist and created their own compositions. As a part of their study,  Year 7 have also engaged in talking critically about the development of each of their compositions. We can't wait to see their next works, inspired by Andy Warhol and his endangered species series.

Year 8

Year 8 have just concluded their study on anthropomorphism, examining artists, their practice and their engaging artworks. Using their knowledge of each artist, the students created their own anthropomorphic works, incorporating human features and qualities with recognisable animals. This unit also incorporates the students' writing critically about their work. The students will now explore the idea of creating a still life, which will become a self-portrait exploring photography and digital media, drawing, painting and lino printing.

Year 9

Year 9 Visual Arts have successfully completed their body of work on a selected concept. Students were required to create a 2D, 3D and 4D artwork. There is an interesting range of projects that demonstrate their artistic intention. The next unit will focus on creating an outfit out of recycled materials and documenting the form.

Year 10

Year 10 Visual artists have created a body of work using a common subject to produce a range of artworks. The creative process included creating sketches of the subject and then developing a range of compositions. Students then created a series applying a range of mediums, including painting, printmaking and collage. Students then documented the process of each artwork and commented critically. Year 10 artists' study comprised a range of artists, culminating in the focused study of contemporary photographer Anne Zahalka. Next term, students will be creating their own body of work, incorporating the skills and techniques developed over the year.

Year 11

Year 11 Visual Arts students have just concluded their End of Preliminary examinations and, next term, are about to move forward in the development of their Year 12 Body of Work. Year 11 students have completed a minor Body of Work, which was an extended study of a common theme, similar to the process of the HSC; they also engaged in documenting a small selection of printmaking practices, documenting skills and techniques, again helping students develop their understanding of documenting processes. Year 11 have explored a range of artists and developed techniques in writing about artists and their works from selected points of view.

Year 11 Photography students have explored a range of photographic techniques this term and incorporated the skills with selective compositional elements. Students have used the macro lens to capture detailed and close-up shots; there have been some wonderful compositions captured.

Year 12

Year 12 Visual Arts students have concluded their Body of Work. A huge congratulations to all students who have composed a range of compositions, which involved a sustained exploration of their individual narrative, which has now been submitted for marking. The students created a range of fantastic artworks, and following their Works in Progress exhibition at the start of the term, they took on the feedback and further developed their compositions. As a part of their historical and critical studies, students have examined a range of artists in Case Studies and in general studies, which will bolster their knowledge in writing about artists and their artworks.

Year 12 Photography students have now completed their last unit of work, which involved the class exploring any topic of their choice. The consensus was to focus on food photography, which involved cooking, staging and photographing the item. Students then used editing tools to give context to the item photographed.
