CLEF

CLEF is our new Year 9 program, designed here at Mater Dei to suit the needs of our students. Each term we focus on one of the pillars - Community, Learning, Elective and Formation - to educate the whole person, and to develop knowledge and skills that can be integrated and transferred into other areas of the curriculum and students’ lives.

Term 2 in CLEF: Community

Our Community term took the form of ‘Project Wagga’. Having heard from a range of guest speakers, students worked together to develop a tool to help the community. Armed with a prototype and a speech, students presented to guest judges and a group of 60 students.

Congratulations to the following groups who won prizes for their projects:

Section 1:

Charlotte O’Reilly-Brooker and Chloe Lieschke - Best Overall

Amelia McPherson, Layla Larsen and Gracie Elliott -  Highly Commended

TERM 3 in CLEF: Learning

Throughout Term 3, CLEF students' new focus has been ‘Project Me’. Across Australia, Year 9 is widely acknowledged as a significant year, with school engagement being just one area of concern. As a group, we talked about 3 key things - where we are now, where we want to go, and what needs to happen to get there. We tracked effort in lessons, completed self-assessments on strengths and weaknesses and explored different paths for the future. Students also completed workshops on a wide range of study and academic skills including ethical AI use, researching, memory techniques, focus, and communication.  To put these new skills into practice, Year 9 have been throwing themselves into fortnightly study sessions, pursuing their academic goals and developing good habits to carry through into future years.

TERM 4 in CLEF: Elective

For Term 4, students were able to select one of the four elective offerings:

  • Fishing
  • Cooking for Community
  • Outdoor Education
  • Be an Artist

We are looking forward to regrouping into our new elective classes and sharing some great experiences next term!
