Prep News

We are so proud of how the students have transitioned back to school this term. They have returned very settled and ready to jump into learning.
Here is a snapshot of our learning from the end of term 1 (which seems like such a long time ago now!) and the first two weeks of term 2.
TERM 1
💐 Welcome
Last week we welcomed Annmaree to the prep team. Annmaree will be working with each of the learning groups as a Learning Support Officer. We are very excited to have her as part of our team and know she will be a wonderful support for our students.
🐣 Easter Hat Parade
A huge thank you to all families for supporting children with their hats for the Easter Hat Parade. The hats seem to get bigger and more creative each year!
🌏 Clean Up Australia Day
After postponing our clean up due to weather, we were finally able to join our buddies to show our care for the environment and to make sure our school looks as amazing as possible.
🏅 Award Recipients
Throughout the year, through our PBL (Positive Behaviours for Learning), we continually teach our core values of respect, responsibility and resilience. Congratulations to the following students who received the core value awards at assembly this week.
🐰 Easter Raffle
Thank you for all the generous donations towards the Easter raffle and for buying raffle tickets. The preps were very successful and managed to win many of the prizes. We hope they share the chocolates with their families!
📚 Literacy
Students read Dan the Flying Man. They made predictions about the story and identified events at the beginning, middle and end of the story.
This week, we read Old Hat by Emily Gravett and We’re Going on an Egg Hunt by Laine Mitchell and completed some Easter activities to accompany these stories.
🔢 Maths
We have been learning about location, using words such as behind, bottom, in front of, inside, left, next to, right, top, under, underneath.
✝️ Religion
We have continued to learn about Holy Week. On Tuesday, we followed the footsteps of Mary through the stations of the cross which were presented to us by the Grade 6 students.
👨👩👧👦 Inquiry
Students have been comparing the past and present, observing what has changed over time. They explored schools, playgrounds, home life and technology.
TERM 2
🏃🏽♀️🏃🏻♂️ Athletics Carnival
We had so much fun on Monday joining in different events at the Athletics Carnival.
📚 Literacy
We have been learning about nouns (things that you can see and touch) and verbs (action words).
🔤 Phonics
We have learnt three new Stage 2 sounds: /b/, /h/ and /n/ and have met Ben Bear, Harry Hippo and Nelly Numbat. Check out the notice board to keep up to date with the new sounds that we are learning.
It has been great to see that so much reading has been happening at home. Please continue to read regularly with your child and record this in your child’s take home journal.
🔢 Mathematics
In Maths, we are learning to break numbers into parts, for example 5 can be broken into 3 and 2. This is a beginning concept to prepare children for addition and subtraction.
✝️ Religion
We have been learning about Jesus’ resurrection and how Mary Magdalene and the women at the tomb felt when they discovered that Jesus had risen.
🧡 Inquiry
We have begun the term by revisiting how to play safely with others at school.
