Sustainability and Gardening Club

Do you recognise the whale in the photo above?  This piece was made last year from almost 1kg of plastic bread bags collected from the school community.

This fortnight we collected almost 350 bottles and cans, and over 30 litres of food scraps.  This is a simple change we have made to increase sustainability, and helps to build compost and water retention in our vegetable gardens.

The Gardening club continues to nuture plants for our upcoming stalls, as well as harvesting the last of our summer produce.  The vegetable garden is beginning to show signs of the changing season, so this term we will focus on preparing beds for winter crops, as well as tidying up spent summer crops and our school garden beds.

Last year our school collected plastic bottle tops that the grade 3's and 4's then used to create lanterns from recycled materials.  There were a number of bottle tops left over from these sessions, and this year we have begun creating art pieces to use these.  A sneak peak of the first art piece is below.  Have you been able to spot the piece hanging in the vegetable garden?
