House Leadership News
Term 1

On behalf of the four Houses at Blackburn High School, I would like to acknowledge the incredible work that has been completed in the first term of the school year. The Houses have welcomed over 200 Year 7’s into the school community and we hope each of them has settled in well and are enjoying their time at Blackburn High School. The Houses play a pivotal role in the transition of our students to ensure that they feel a part of the school community. I would like to welcome the following staff who have joined us at Blackburn this year:
Dunlop- Salena Johnson
Hollows- Caitlin Barry
Melba- Kira Cleary-Ingram & Natasha Baldock
Freeman- Anthony Ah Lit & Natalie Seah
Term 1 is always busy, and 2026 has been no different.
We held the Swimming Carnival, House Performing Arts festival, and Mentor competitions, and now we are concluding the school term with the Athletics Carnival.

The Houses are the key drivers in these competitions, and the competitive nature always comes to the surface. I would like to acknowledge all students for their participation and engagement in the competitions.
Congratulations to Dunlop House on achieving victory in the Swimming and Athletics Carnivals and for Freeman House for achieving a win with Newsies in the House Performing Arts Festival.

Additionally, H5 Mentor Group won the Blackburn High School 70th Anniversary poster competition. House points are awarded for all inter-house competitions with the overall current standings as follows:
Freeman House also recently completed our House Fundraiser, which raised money for Marrup, formerly the Community Spirit Foundation. In line with the 70th anniversary of Blackburn High School, the fundraiser featured an acknowledgement of the 1956 Melbourne Olympic Games.
Thank you to the Freeman student leaders who assisted on the day and all students for participating, and who contributed to raising over $2000.
On behalf of all the Houses, I would like to wish all families a safe and restful Term 1 break.
Emma Love- Freeman House Leader
