Ulysses Community Report

Term 3, 2026

Welcome to The Ulysses Community Newsletter. We have almost reached the end of Term 3, and we teachers are exhilarated by the educational and social progress of the Grade 1 community. We have seen substantial progress in your children in all areas of the curriculum. There are still a few weeks remaining till school holidays, and we look forward to achieving new heights in our students’ education.

Reading

In Reading, we are currently working on mentor texts, and students are learning various skills to understand a text by making connections, using textual clues, and asking questions, as well as by understanding the characters, setting, and plot of a story. Students have shown great success in understanding and applying those skills during reading.

Writing

We are presently working on applying the notion of narratives. In the beginning, we focused on writing narratives based on the nursery rhymes. Students showed great interest in nursery rhymes and in creating a story with characters, a setting, a problem, and a resolution. Students have also been provided with various options, such as picture prompts and videos, and have been encouraged to create their own stories using their imagination. We have seen abundant amounts of success in this field. In the coming weeks, we will continue working on narratives.

Maths

We are now focusing on a basic version of Multiplication and making groups; we have exposed our students to many learning resources and manipulatives to aid with this subject, as well as real-life scenarios to build their understanding. In measurement, students are learning about time and duration and answering questions related to time and scheduling. We have also commenced asking students open-ended questions and teaching them how to answer them. We have seen inordinate success in all these areas. In the coming weeks, we will continue with this topic.

Book WEEK

This Term we celebrated Book Week. Students participated in various Book Week activities throughout the week. We also had a whole-school dress-up day in which the students and teachers came dressed up
