Performing Arts

On behalf of the Hume City Council, we were fortunate enough to receive a free workshop from the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra: Jams for Schools for 2026 on Tuesday, August 18th. This ties in. nicely with our Book Week theme of Symphony of Stories.

"MSO Artist in Residence and leading music education specialist, Karen Kyriakou and six MSO musicians will come to your school and lead fun and interactive workshops exploring a piece of orchestral music, pulling out musical themes and compositional techniques. Workshops run for 45 minutes and will be differentiated to cater for Years P-3 and Years 4-6. Up to 300 students can participate in each workshop with a maximum of three workshops per day. We’ll bring everything, even some percussion instruments for students to jam with us! And it’s all completely free!"

Here are some responses from the students and teachers that participated in the incursion:

Stella (Prep A) – “It was so good. I loved the piano!”

Grace (1D) – “I liked the instruments and how we got to tap them”

Michelle - Teacher (Prep D) – “I thought it was fantastic. It was very engaging. We hope to see more of them.”

We will hopefully be able to book the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra for another free incursion in year 2027!
