Our Prep students had their first excursion to Animal Land in Diggers Rest. During this excursion we had the opportunity to learn from an experienced farmer. Students were able to:

We are very proud of our students and how well they represented the school on their first excursion. We hope that all students had a wonderful time and had plenty of stories to bring home!
Book Week!
During Book Week the Prep students were fortunate enough to attend the Tony Bones Book Incursion where Tony bought the story 'Being Indy' to life. There was singing, dancing, acting and listening in the incursion. Some Prep students were chosen to bring characters from the book to life and play roles to support Toby. Once again, very proud of all of the Prep students for their enagagement and behaviour during the incursion.
Phonics
The students have been using their knowledge of letter sounds to work out the spelling and reading of short words. They have been learning the sound of digraphs, such as ck, wh, qu, th, ss, zz, ll and ff and more high frequency words. They have continued to challenge themselves by thinking of words that rhyme and words with the same first sound. Their favourite is syllables, where they get to clap how many beats there are in a word and proudly say how many syllables there are.
Reading
The Prep children have enjoyed reading narratives and improving their reading and comprehension skills. After having fun reading the book in class, they practice answering questions about the story, make connections and infer what the characters are feeling. They also practise their fluency by reading sentences at the correct pace.
Writing
The students' creativity continues to shine in writing as they create their own character and choose a setting for their own narrative. They also come up with ideas on how their narrative begins, what the problem is and how the problem gets fixed. The students also show their understanding of a recount by writing what they wore on the Book Week Parade.

In Maths, Prep students have been learning about subtraction, and now have moved onto exploring position and location, giving and following directions using key words that support what students need to do.

In SEL, Prep students have been learning about empathy, emotions and cooperation. Students have been exploring how emotions come and go and identifying ways to reset, express and manage their feelings. They have also been learning to care for others, show kindness and empathy, and work cooperatively by listening, sharing, taking turns and helping one another.
In Inquiry, Prep students have been designing and creating their own toys using recycled materials. They drew and planned their ideas, selected materials and constructed their toys. Students have also thought of a name for their toy and what it can do. They will present their finished toys to the class in the coming weeks.
