Indonesian Independence Day 2025

Gisborne Secondary College recently marked Indonesian Independence Day with a cultural event for Year 7 and Year 8 students. The program aimed to introduce students to aspects of Indonesian tradition through interactive activities and hands-on learning.

The event featured Lomba Makan Krupuk, a traditional Indonesian game where students competed to eat hanging donuts without using their hands. The game sparked plenty of laughter and friendly competition, offering a fun way to experience a custom often enjoyed during Independence Day festivities across Indonesia.

Additionally, students developed the skill to fold and wear traditional Balinese headwear, gaining an appreciation for its cultural and ceremonial significance.

The event supported the school’s broader commitment to intercultural understanding and global awareness. By engaging with Indonesian customs, students gained insight into the country’s heritage and the importance of its independence.
