School-wide Positive Behaviour Support

Gisborne Secondary College continued their work on the School Wide Positive Behaviours framework by undertaking professional development for all staff on implementing Classroom Systems, which are based on the Universal Supports: Positive Classroom Management Strategies (PCMS).
On the Pupil free day (Wednesday 27th August 2025) all staff completed workshops supported by classroom data in areas 6 to 8 of the Positive Classroom Management Strategies.
Student Voice Teams at Gisborne Secondary College
At Gisborne Secondary College we have established student voice teams (SVTs) to play a crucial role in enhancing school performance, particularly in areas such as student engagement and wellbeing. In Victorian government schools, the Attitudes to School survey provides valuable data on students’ perceptions of their learning environment, social-emotional wellbeing, and overall engagement. By involving students directly through student voice teams, GSC has been able to use this data to drive meaningful improvements tailored to the students’ needs.
Student voice teams, typically composed of representative students from diverse backgrounds and year levels, serve as a bridge between the student body and school leadership. When these teams review Attitudes to School data, they gain insights into key areas where students feel less engaged or experience wellbeing challenges. This collaborative review process empowers students to identify specific issues, such as feelings of safety, connection with teachers, or participation in extracurricular activities. Furthermore, involving students in decision-making across the College has fostered a sense of ownership and belonging, which itself enhances engagement and wellbeing.
In the first weeks of Term 4, these student voice teams will deliver their feedback to the whole staff on the Attitudes to School data to pinpoint areas for improvement and co-create strategies with those staff, leading to targeted interventions that boost both engagement and wellbeing. This partnership ultimately supports a positive, inclusive school culture where all students can thrive.
