Supermarket Stitch Project
Our creative Year 7 Textiles students have wrapped up their Supermarket Stitch Project, and the results look good enough to eat. Inspired by contemporary textile artists Lucy Sparrow and Holly Levell, students designed and produced soft-sculpture versions of their favourite supermarket items, from colourful snack boxes to cheeky soft drinks, entirely from felt and embroidery thread.
Throughout the term they developed their own patterns, practised appliqué and hand-embroidery techniques, and explored the design process from concept to final product. Along the way they considered how colour, typography and packaging influence what we buy.
The final collection reflects not only technical skill but also teamwork, critical thinking and a big dash of humour.
Congratulations to our talented Year 7 designers for proving that textiles can be both playful and thought-provoking.
Shorts/Pants Project
Our Year 9 Textiles students have proudly completed their Custom Shorts Project, combining creativity with practical skills to produce garments they can wear with pride.
The term began with an investigation into fast fashion, discussing its environmental and social impacts and why understanding garment construction matters. Students examined how mass-produced clothing is made before setting out to create their own piece, helping them appreciate the time, skill and ethical considerations behind every stitch.
They explored sustainable fabrics and the role of cotton in the clothing industry, then drafted and adjusted their own patterns for a personalised fit. Advanced sewing-machine techniques, from precise seam finishes to waistbands and hems, gave them confidence and accuracy.
Congratulations to our talented Year 9 designers for transforming fabric into fashion that is stylish, sustainable and completely their own
Textiles Techniques Collage
Our Year 10 Textiles students have completed a heart-warming Textiles Techniques Baby Photo Collage, celebrating childhood memories while mastering a wide range of advanced skills.
Each student began by selecting a cherished baby photograph and planning a design that combined traditional and digital methods. They experimented with appliqué, transfer printing, hand and digital embroidery, sewing-machine construction and creative embellishments, layering textures and colours to bring their images to life.
