Finalists!
Finalists!

For the first half of the term, our Year 7s have been learning about poetry, culminating in each student reciting a poem of their choice in front of their classes. A finalist from each class was chosen to present at a final judged by Ms Davidson. Below is a poetic account of the finals by one of the participants, Eryn Benson.

My Heart Beats Fast Like the Poem on My Tongue

Silence,

As I step fast steadfast to the pinnacle of the room.

Staring eyes,

Like the audience was looking at the beautiful moon.

Shuddering,

I draw my breath near and dear.

A song,

Is what the sea of eyes hear.

Softly,

My voice waltzes, flowing and free.

Shining,

My voice splits the room like the red sea.

Still,

Is the room of the water when my voice dies out.

The sea,

Looks upon me, waves crash, and clears the drought.

Smiling,

My brain beams out, happy and young.

Shimmering,

My heart beats fast like the poem on my tongue.
