Year 10 Writing Competition

On September 12, we celebrated the writing of our Year 10 English students. Thank you to Angela Buckingham for judging the writing and sharing her observations with the students. She spoke about appreciating the writers who showed us their experiences with vivid description and specificity, rather than stepping back into commentary on the morality or broader emotional impact of events.
Congratulations to the following winners:
1st Place - Polina Rybachuk
Her account of being separated from her brother was intense. With memoir, the strength of the piece often comes from the power of lived experience, and this was evident in her piece.
2nd Place - Diella Fithri and Pei Xuan
Diella Fithri for taking us inside the mind of a dancer with acute sensitivity.
Pei Xuan for a wonderfully funny piece about being disqualified at a school carnival.
3rd place - Antonio Nguyen
For a story about haircutting that was surprising and humorous.
Honourable mentions:
- Kira Klancevic for a beautifully written piece on fear of numbers.
- Nidhi Pillay for a poignant reflection on the trust a child places in a parent when that bond is strong.
- Finn Ching-Lowry for such a physical, visceral description of jumping off the pier at Flinders that it brought back memories of piers from my own teenage adventures.
