Foundation (Prep) 2027
Applications are open now for Foundation (Prep) in 2027. Children born on or before 30 April 2022 are eligible for entry to start school next year.
If you require a place in Foundation (Prep) next year for your child, please submit their digital application on the VicStudents portal as soon as possible. A copy of the Department of Education process and timeline for Foundation (Prep) in 2027 and digital application instructions are attached for your information; copies of these documents are available from the School Office. The Foundation (Prep) 2027 Information Guide for parents and carers is also attached for your reference.
Demand for placement at EHPS continues to be high. If you will have two or more children enrolled at EHPS in 2027, you have priority for placement in Foundation (Prep) and we need to know these numbers as early as possible and not later than Friday 31 July so we can offer places in accordance with the placement criteria.
Children born between 1 January 2022 and 30 April 2022 are eligible to commence school next year, however you may be considering delaying starting school until 2028 when they are 5 or 6 years old. As your child is eligible to commence primary school in 2027, we recommend that you submit their application by 31 July 2026. Consult and take advice over the coming months from kinder staff and if applicable, their treating doctor/specialist. If the decision is made to postpone starting school in the best interests of your child and a repeat 4 Year Old Kinder place for 2027 is secured, let us know as soon as this decision has been made to postpone so the place is withdrawn for the 2027 intake.
Foundation (Prep) 2027 applications are due not later than Friday 31 July 2026.
Once Upon A Craft
Any child commencing Prep in 2027 is invited to join us for Once Upon A Craft, an afternoon story and craft activity. Sessions of this optional activity will run from 2:45pm to 3:15pm in the Library on:
- Monday 15 June
- Wednesday 17 June
- Monday 22 June
- Wednesday 24 June
Places are limited; booking is required. Parents/carers choose one session from the dates above and secure a place by phoning our Office between 9:30am and 2:30pm weekdays on 9807 4944.
Spring into Prep
Optional activity for children enrolled to start Prep at EHPS in 2027. Sessions will be held from 2:45pm to 3:15pm in the Library on:
- Monday 31 August
- Monday 7 September
- Monday 14 September

School Transition Program
The following sessions are for all children commencing Prep at EHPS in 2027 and are important and vital preparation for their start at primary school:
- Transition 1 – Friday 6 November – Mathematics session; parent session on maths at EHPS.
- Transition 2 – Friday 13 November – Specialists session; parent session on first aid and health care at school.
- Transition 3 – Friday 27 November – Literacy session; parent session on literacy at EHPS.
- Orientation – Friday 4 December.
All children are expected to attend; no booking required. We request that parents/carers only notify the school by emailing essex.heights.ps@education.vic.gov.au if their child cannot attend a session.
An Information Night for parents/carers only will be held on Tuesday 17 November starting at 6pm. The evening will commence in the Prep classrooms where the children will be learning and working in. A presentation in the Hall will include start of year dates and procedures, a typical Prep day, and being part of the EHPS community.
