Year 6

Reconciliation Week 2026 - All in for Reconciliation
In English, Year 6 students have been studying the Stolen Generations alongside Sally Morgan's book, Sister Heart. These studies have complemented the national days of recognition in May and early June.
On Tuesday, the 26th of May, we acknowledged National Sorry Day in our classrooms. Stevie V explains the premise of National Sorry Day:
“In 2002, Prime Minister Kevin Rudd gave a formal apology to the people in the Stolen Generations on behalf of the Australian Government. The apology recognised the suffering caused by the past government actions and was an important step towards healing and reconciliation.” - Stevie V, 6W
Reconciliation Week started on Wednesday, the 27th of May. Lucas Z put it best:
“It is a yearly reminder of the work needed to heal the country and bring people back together.” - Lucas Z, 6W
As a mid-term assessment, students have written explanation texts about the experience of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children in the Stolen Generations. All students have shown incredible care and insight when writing about such a sensitive topic. Please enjoy reading the following samples from two students:
- The Stolen Generations by Neave A (6B)
- The Stolen Generations: Through the eyes of Indigenous Australian Children by Nika D (6W)
