Year Two

Greetings grade 2 parents and carers,
We have made an enthusiastic start to Term 3. Our students have developed and applied their knowledge creatively in inspiring ways.
Reading
We have begun a new author study into Bob Graham. The students have made connections to the similarities with Stephen Micheal King's work. They explored the themes and author's message they identified in 'The Concrete Garden', and made connections to their personal experiences. They are also exploring character traits through analysing 'Rose Meets Mr. Wintergarten."
Writing
We have continued to develop the writing process, beginning with ideas and images as writing seeds. The students have developed writing plans, and explored how to turn those ideas into drafts for various text types, for different audiences and purposes. They are experimenting with writing to inform, persuade and entertain. They are also continuing to practice editing and revising their writing to prepare to publish.
Maths
In week one, the students reviewed number patterns. In week two, they have commenced a unit on measurement. They explored how to measure length using formal and informal units. They predicted and compared the mass of various common objects in their environment.
Inquiry
The students are continuing to wrap up the special project from Unit of Inquiry three, completing their eco-bricks and beginning to convert them into a 'buddy-bench.' They participated in a provocation for Unit of Inquiry four, and have begun to research, develop and present their knowledge of body systems in creative ways.
Reminders
Students to bring homework books and reading journals in and present them to teachers weekly on the assigned day.
Readers to be changed weekly in reading satchel.
The body systems incursion is coming up in week 4.
Parent-teacher interviews are on the afternoon of Thursday the 30th, in week 3. Please reserve your session through the Xuno portal.
