Arts Festival
Last Friday we held our annual MCC Arts Festival. It was a wonderful celebration of the artistic pursuits of our students across both Primary and Secondary Schools.
The Art Room, classrooms, the Louisa Centre and other College walls came to life with wonderful artworks and installations.
There were some outstanding musical performances from Year 7-10 Music classes, the Middle Years Voices, the Senior Singers, the Ceilidh Band, and Instrumental Students on the Lauramont Stage, Library Stage and Undercroft Stage.
The Studio Stage in the Drama Room hosted the Year 7 Drama performances which were as well prepared and full of skillful delivery as ever.
The Concert Hall was the venue for some very vibrant items by the Primary School, Fiddlesticks junior string group, College Orchestra, the Primary Choir and Junior Choir, Year 7/8 and 9/10 Dance class routines, and an impressive solo routine by Brooklynn Taylor.
The Sofia Stage was the stage for the Dance Troupe, Junior Dance Ensemble, and a group of very talented soloists. All performed their dance routines to appreciative audiences.
Once again, this year’s festival concluded with our Year 8 students leading a samba bucket band procession out of the Hall and then MC Squared, the staff band, played a rollicking rendition of I’m a Believer to send everyone home.
An event such as the Arts Festival doesn’t happen without the involvement of many staff members. If I was to list them all here, the number would exceed 40 members of staff who contributed in a variety of ways. Many thanks to all of them for their hours of preparation beforehand, and assistance during, Arts Festival.
Our students’ willingness to be involved in the Arts Festival (and several other artistic happenings at MCC throughout the year) in large numbers (497 at last count!) never ceases to amaze me. From experienced performers and artists to first-timers, the atmosphere created by their combined artistic energies was a real highlight of the year so far in the life of our College. Many thanks and congratulations to all of the students who participated in the event and gave themselves real reason to be proud of themselves.
House Drama
All three Houses are working hard in their weekly rehearsals for House Drama, which will be held on the final day of Term Three after lunch in the Hall. All the best to all of the Houses for their performances!
