Around the Secondary Classes

English Extended

The 9/10 English Extended class enjoyed a matinee performance of the iconic story Looking for Alibrandi.

This hilarious, coming of age story had them in stitches one minute, and in tears the next. Students marvelled at the cast’s ability to play multiple characters, and complete full costume changes in under 15 seconds!

Following the performance students attended a Q&A session where they had the opportunity to ask the director and performers questions about the play and their profession.

Years 8 and 9 HPE

This term in Year 9 Physical Education, students have enjoyed taking part in tactical games such as touch football, soccer, and AFL. These games not only developed their skills and game sense but also promoted teamwork, participation, and plenty of enjoyment out on the field. Some of these lessons were held at Lower Queenborough Oval giving the girls plenty and space to run around and utilise a full sized field.

Alongside this, Year 9 also embraced a range of activities designed to promote fun and fitness. They have participated in engaging online fitness sessions that encouraged movement and activity while highlighting the importance of maintaining a healthy and active lifestyle. Sessions such a high intensity aerobics, balance and stability, core strength and low impact activities were performed with time for meditation and reflection at the end of each lesson.

In Term 4, Year 9 students will showcase their creativity in Physical Education by designing and playing their own game activities. This will give them the chance to explore teamwork, problem-solving, and leadership while having plenty of fun putting their ideas into action. They will then teach their game to the class.

Our Year 8 students are taking part in SEPEP (Sport Education in Physical Education Program) throughout Term 4. SEPEP gives students the opportunity to experience what it’s like to be part of a real sporting team or competition, where they step into the roles of players, coaches, and organisers. Working in groups, each team is allocated a sport (Netball, Basketball, Futsal, or Volleyball) and are responsible for running two lessons. The first lesson focused on skill development, including warm-ups, skill stations, minor games, and cooldowns, with every student taking a turn as a coach. The second lesson saw teams run a round-robin tournament, with students taking on key roles such as umpire, scorer, tournament manager, and even media manager. To finish the unit, students will reflect on their learning and teamwork by completing a self and group evaluation.

Students have been thoroughly enjoying this activity and are excited to be in charge of their class for the sessions. The HPE staff have been extremely impressed with the effort that Year 8 have put into these sessions.

Our Junior and Senior Dance Troupes, along with the Yr 9/10 Dance class, will be performing at the annual Tassie Dancers Against Cancer fund raiser in the upcoming school holidays.

This will be a great opportunity to see our talented dancers in action on the stage performing the routines we did at the Hobart Dance Eisteddfod and the Gold Coast Eisteddfod. The girls have worked so hard all year and this event is a really worthy cause - one that is no doubt close to a lot of people's hearts.

If you are at a loose end on Sunday 12 October, we are performing in the morning session - starting at approximately 10.00am and concluding by 12.30pm. The Senior Dance Troupe will be on first, followed by the Yr 9/10 Dance class at about 11.00am and finally the Junior Troupe shortly after 11.00am.
