Primary Athletics

The Primary Athletics Carnival was held on Tuesday in very cool, spring conditions.  Unfortunately the weather forecast caused the postponement of the Early Years involvement.  We pushed ahead with the carnival as planned for students from Year 3 – 6, and fortunately the weather cleared up enough not to dampen the spirits of everyone involved.  It was a fabulous, fun day, and we witnessed some very impressive individual performances from our students. It was wonderful to see all our students participating and getting involved, showing resilience and determination, whilst also encouraging their peers.

This year Carmel took the honours with 649 points, then Loreto in 2nd with 582 points, and Lourdes with 526 points.

Congratulations to the following event winners, and congratulations to Olivia Ribbon on a new record holder of Year 5 800m:

Thank you to the HPE staff who helped organised the day, as well as the Year 10 HPE class and parent volunteer Ash Nally, who gave up their day to support this event.  Selected students will now compete in the JSSATIS and STCPSSA Athletics Carnival in early November.

SATIS Representative Day

The SATIS Representative Day was held on Friday 5 September in Hobart, bringing together some of the most talented students from across Tasmania. It was a fantastic day of high-quality competition, school spirit, and regional pride, with every game showcasing the skill, determination, and sportsmanship of our students.  The day included Boys and Girls Basketball, Soccer and Tennis.

Addison Broadbent and Ines Gadon, Year 10 represented Mount Carmel in the Southern SATIS Soccer team. The South were strong defensively and clinical up front, securing a 2-0 victory over the North.  Congratulations to Addison and Ines on their selection and contribution to the team’s success.

Secondary Swimming Team

The team will now turn its attention to the State SATIS Carnival next Tuesday, 17 September.

Hockey

This term, Mount Carmel has teams participating in Hockey Tasmania’s School Super Sixes primary competition and the Secondary Division 3 (Year 7/8) competitions.  The Super Sixes includes keen students continuing on from Term 2 grass hockey, and students new to the sport, ready to challenge themselves on the astro-turf against some different opposition.  Mount Carmel has two teams in the competition with two teams from both Sacred Heart College and Princes St Primary.  The players have adapted really well to the faster astro-turf, and have improved their skills as the weeks go on.

The Division 3 secondary hockey team are enjoying a fun and competitive season.  Year 10 student coaches Keshi and Erika have been  impressed with the contribution of the whole team, which has a blend of experience.  After a close loss 1-3 to Mackillop in the opening match, the team recorded wins against Collegiate White 4-1 and Fahan 3-2.  The back end of the season has been a challenge against some of the stronger teams, but the team is hoping to bounce back in their final game of the season this week.

Well done to all the Hockey players, and special thanks to those parents assisting with teams.

Year 9/10 Football

The Year 9/10 Football term 3 roster has been short and sweet.  Unfortunately the opening match was cancelled due to ground closures.  Then in Round 2 the team had a well timed bye, while the Year 10s went on camp.

The round 3 match became the opening game, and a scramble to find enough players, due to so many players being away, unavailable or sick.  Thanks to Year 7/8 students who joined the team last minute to ensure the game could go ahead against Friends’.  It was well worth the effort, as the team spirit and camaraderie contributed to a 6.13 (49) to 0.0 (0) victory.

In Round 4, a more complete team travelled to Dominic, working hard to secure the win 8.11 (59) to 4.6 (30).   In the final game of the season, a win was required to make the Grand Final.  Unfortunately, it wasn’t to be, with a stronger Mackillop team taking victory 6.6 (42) to 1.3 (9).

Well done to the players that committed to the season, and thanks to Mr Chapman and Mr Richmond who coached the team.
