Year 10 Sports Action and Management
On Saturday the 7th of September six of our current and past SAMS students headed out to the infamous Victoria Park to umpire the half-time Auskick matches for Round 2 of the AFLW season. Under blue skies Hawthorn took on Collingwood (captained by MGC Alumnus Bri Davey no less), and our team of umpires did a fantastic job on the day! Well done to Coco, Evie, Lydia, Kyla, Nieve and Polly, and a big thankyou to our AFL Umpiring Coach Neville Nash who has worked with us throughout the term as well as to the parents that came along on the day.

Intermediate Football Regional Final
Congratulations to the Intermediate Girls Football team on making the regional final earlier this Term. After a gruelling couple of rounds leading into the final, MGC was eager to face their rival in Greensborough.
MGC came prepared with a determined attitude and mindset, hitting the contest hard in the first quarter. Working against a strong breeze in the first quarter the girls managed to hold off their opponent and keep themselves in a winning position. Key backline players with the likes of Yasmine Ronai, Danielle Barone and Felicity Comerford managing to lock down and hold off the opposition's forwards.
As the game unfolded, the team’s defensive pressure and willingness to work to each contest had the girls in an advantageous position to take hold of the game. Our midfield group tackled hard and continued to surge the ball into attack, providing our forwards with continual options.
Ava Athanapoulos battled hard in the ruck all day, supplying our midfield group with first touch on the ball at each contest. There was clear stand out performances across the field, some of which included Zara McIntosh, Ruby Page, Zara Lanigan and Matilda Wright.
The girls fought valiantly throughout the day, unfortunately at the final siren the score didn’t have MGC on top, going down by a couple of goals.
The intermediate team walked off the field with their heads held high, hungry to come back next year and go one better. Well done to all the students involved!
