Y5: School

Camp

The Year 5 Ballarat Camp was an enriching and memorable experience for our students. Over three days, students immersed themselves in hands-on activities that brought history to life. They explored Sovereign Hill, where they panned for gold, toured the underground mines, tried candle dipping, and witnessed the Gold Pour demonstration. Visits to the Eureka Centre, the Tramway Museum, the Art Gallery of Ballarat, and the Wildlife Park gave them opportunities to connect their classroom learning to real-world settings.

The purpose of this camp was not only recreational but deeply educational. Students gained insight into the gold rush era, colonial life, 19th-century migration, the experiences of Indigenous peoples on the goldfields, the industrial revolution, and the environmental impacts of mining.

Our students returned not only with greater knowledge of Australia’s history and heritage, but also with a newfound sense of independence, confidence, and resilience.
