Principal's Message
Words from the College Principal, Issue 5, Term 3, 2025.
Assalamualaikum warahmatullah wabarakatuh.
Dear Parents, Guardians and Students,
Alhamdulillah, Term 3 is well underway and I am delighted to share some of the exciting activities, learning opportunities, and memorable experiences our students have enjoyed so far.
One of the highlights for our Secondary students this term was the Careers Expo. Students explored the three main pathways offered at ICOM: VCE, VCE VM, and the International Baccalaureate (IB), gaining valuable insights into subject choices, prerequisites, study scores, scaling methods, and future opportunities. A special session was also held introducing our Year 9 students to the Diploma of Islamic Leadership. In the evening, information sessions were held for Year 9 and 10 parents, providing guidance on supporting their children in making informed decisions about their learning pathways and future goals. With a variety of interactive sessions and activities, including food trucks on site, the lively atmosphere helped make what can sometimes feel overwhelming, a fun and engaging experience for our students. ICOM’s annual Careers Expo truly reflects our commitment to helping students discover their strengths, explore their passions, and find the path best suited to them.
Continuing the theme of reflection and connection, our Year 3 students came together for a special movie night. Beyond the entertainment, the film offered meaningful themes around emotions, growth, and transitions, giving students much to reflect on. It was a memorable evening filled with laughter, popcorn, and excitement. I feel truly blessed to see our students engaging in activities that encourage reflection, connection, and positivity, in line with Islamic values.
Footy Day also brought great excitement across the school this term. Dressed in their favourite team’s fan gear, students enjoyed a day full of fun activities such as the ever-popular flag hunt, the challenging obstacle course and creative footy banner designing. Alhamdulillah, it was a wonderful opportunity for students to come together, enjoy friendly competition, and experience the joy that physical activity and teamwork bring.
Our Year 5 students embarked on an immersive experience at Sovereign Hill, stepping back in time to explore life during the gold rush era, colonial life and 19th century migration. Students participated in a variety of hands-on activities, from panning for gold and trying traditional trades, to exploring historical buildings and learning about the experiences of people from the 1850s. The camp allowed students to gain a deeper appreciation of Australia’s rich history while practising teamwork and problem solving in real-life scenarios.
Our Year 9 boys and girls attended separate wellbeing camps this term, designed to provide a balance of adventure and learning. Students enjoyed archery, campfire cooking, hut building, star gazing, and a host of other outdoor activities, ensuring there was something for everyone. The camps offered students the chance to step away from the routine of the classroom and develop important life skills such as independence, resilience, and leadership through hands-on challenges.
Meanwhile, the Primary School celebrated Arabic Week, immersing themselves in the beauty and richness of the Arabic language. Special calligraphy incursions allowed students to practise writing in this elegant script, while lunchtime Arabic broadcasts, hosted by students, showcased their growing confidence. Arabic-inspired competitions added excitement and friendly challenge throughout the week. Beyond the fun, the week encouraged students to deepen their appreciation for one of the most eloquent languages in the world, the language of the Quran, and reflect on its significance in connecting us to our Deen.
This term, I was delighted to host an Information Night for families joining the ICOM community in 2026. The evening provided an opportunity to share an overview of our programs, school expectations, and the values that guide our community. Families were able to connect with key staff, ask questions, and gain a deeper understanding of life at ICOM. To all the new families joining us next year, a very warm welcome. Insha Allah, I look forward to seeing you and your children become part of our school community.
As we pass the midpoint of Term 3, I am proud of the achievements and growth our students have already experienced. With Sunnah to Smile Mental Health Week, STEM Week, Parent-Teacher Interviews, and a range of educational excursions and incursions still ahead, I am confident that the remainder of the term will continue to be engaging, inspiring, and full of opportunities for learning and personal development, Insha Allah. May Allah grant our students continued success in their learning, guide them in applying their knowledge with intention, and bless them with joy and growth in every experience.
