Secondary: Debating & Public Speaking

This week was an exciting one for ICOM Debating students, with both the next generation of debaters beginning their journey and our senior students proudly representing the school in finals competition.
On Wednesday, 20th August, our junior debaters attended their first DAV training session at Werribee Secondary College. Students were introduced to the rules of debating, the process of building clear arguments, expectations around respectful conduct towards opponents and adjudicators, and the way adjudication works. It was a highly engaging and supportive session, and we are delighted to welcome these new voices to our debating program.
On Thursday, 21st August, our Year 9 and 10 girls competed in the Playoff Rounds of the DAV Schools Competition at Lowther Hall Anglican Grammar School. Both teams spoke beautifully and presented strong cases against highly experienced opponents. While the results did not go in our favour, their achievement in reaching the final rounds is a testament to their talent and hard work. To be ranked among the top high-scoring schools in Victoria is a remarkable accomplishment.
We congratulate all our students for their growth, resilience, and teamwork, and look forward to more successes in the future.
