The Importance of Being Earnest/Jak je důležité míti Filipa

The Theatre Company stepped out of their comfort zone this term by exploring their use of space and audience position. Stepping into an immersive style experience, the audience were transported to 1920’s London. The Hotel Fitzgerald was the perfect location to present Oscar Wilde’s The Importance of Being Earnest. 

Blending the play with musical interludes from a live band of ECP students gave the audience a thrilling experience. The cast performed the nuance of the complex script brilliantly, hitting every quip with their quick witted and fast paced dialogue and reactions. A truly impressive accomplishment. The ensemble worked tirelessly to perfect their choreography with complex formations in the space. 

Congratulations to all involved. It was great fun to be a part of and the cucumber sandwiches were delightful!

Divadelní společnost ECP letos vystoupila ze své komfortní zóny a prozkoumala využití prostoru a pozice publika. Diváci se v pohlcujícím stylu přenesli do Londýna 20. let 20. století. Hotel Fitzgerald byl ideálním místem pro uvedení Wildeovy hry Jak je důležité míti Filipa.

Spojení této hry s hudebními intermezzy od živé kapely studentů ECP poskytlo divákům strhující zážitek. Herci brilantně ztvárnili nuance složitého scénáře a svými pohotovými a rychlými dialogy a reakcemi trefili každý vtip. Opravdu působivý výkon. Soubor neúnavně pracoval na zdokonalení choreografie se složitými formacemi v prostoru.

Gratulujeme všem zúčastněným. Byla velmi zábavné být toho součástí a okurkové sendviče byly vynikající!

Elin Herbeck: The Sir Tom Stoppard Prize for Drama & The Ian Mikyska Prize for Music

Elin is a dedicated performer who has shown commitment, independence and artistic excellence throughout her IB years. Her vocal performances are always well-prepared and technically proficient. But Elin has also demonstrated progress in expression and artistic interpretation, which shows a willingness to take risks and grow as an artist. All of her musical engagements at ECP have happened outside of her full IB curriculum, which makes her dedication all the more impressive.

Elin is an exceptional Theatre student. She has a passion for creating, performing and learning about all aspects of Theatre. She is an outstanding performer who tackles issues in thought-provoking ways. She is reflective and finds innovative ways to improve her work. Elin has grown so much during the two-year course, showing great resilience and perseverance. We are excited to see what she does in the future.

Elin je oddaná umělkyně, která během studia na IB prokázala odhodlání, nezávislost a uměleckou dokonalost. Její vokální vystoupení jsou vždy dobře připravená a technicky zdatná. Elin však také prokázala pokrok ve vyjadřování a umělecké interpretaci, což svědčí o ochotěriskovat a růst jako umělkyně. Všechny její hudební angažmá na ECP probíhaly mimo rámec jejího plného kurikula IB, což její odhodlání činí o to působivějším.

Elin je výjimečná studentka divadla. Má vášeň pro tvorbu, vystupování a učení se o všech aspektech divadla. Je vynikající umělkyní, která se zabývá problémy podnětným způsobem. Je reflexivní a nachází inovativní způsoby, jak se zlepšit. Elin během dvouletého studia v IB hodně vyrostla a prokázala velkou odolnost a vytrvalost. Těšíme se, čemu se bude věnovat v budoucnu.

Viktorie Suchánková: The Jan Grossman Prize for Dramatic Performance

Viktorie is a talented actor, director and designer. She makes connections between theory and practice and her performances in IB Theatre have been strong and inspiring to younger students. She is very professional and pays close attention to detail, which raises the level of performances here at ECP. She challenges herself out of her comfort zone time and time again.

Viktorie je talentovaná herečka, režisérka a výtvarnice. Propojuje teorii s praxí a její vystoupení v rámci IB divadla byla silná a inspirativní pro mladší studenty. Je velmi profesionální a věnuje velkou pozornost detailům, což zvyšuje úroveň vystoupení zde v ECP. Znovu a znovu se snaží vyjít ze své komfortní zóny.

Elsa Sršňová: The Eva Jiřičná Prize for Art & Design

Elsa is an exceptional student of the Visual Arts. Her work is imbued with both intellect and artistry: technical skill is always evident, alongside intriguing concepts, and she curated an excellent exhibition that synthesised both. Confident in exploring traditional and emerging media, Elsa has worked with tenacity to develop assured media handling skills across many art forms. She is a versatile and thoughtful artist; throughout her work can be found a fascination with realism, as well as imaginative explorations into three-dimensional form and photography.

Elsa je výjimečná studentka výtvarného umění. Její práce je prodchnuta intelektem i uměleckým cítěním: technické dovednosti jsou vždy patrné spolu se zajímavými koncepty a jako kurátorka připravila vynikající výstavu, která propojila obojí. Elsa sebejistě zkoumá tradiční i nově vznikající médií a s houževnatostí rozvíjí své dovednosti v oblasti zacházení s médii napříč mnoha uměleckými formami. Je všestrannou a přemýšlivou umělkyní a v její tvorbě lze nalézt fascinaci realismem i imaginativní zkoumání trojrozměrných forem či fotografie.

Open Mic 

The second Open Mic of the year was another brilliant display of the broad musical skills and dedication at ECP. Performances varied from ensembles of a dozen students to solo performances. It featured some first-time performers who did exceptionally well handling being in the spotlight, as well as numerous veteran musicians who keep ensuring the Open Mic nights are exciting events to attend. 

The venue saw a mix of students, parents and teachers enjoying the evening with music and refreshments, doing their part in keeping the atmosphere friendly yet excited. While we really have enjoyed being at the Salsita Club for the past few Open Mics, we are excited to take our Open Mic to The Hotel Fitzgerald next time around. See you there!

Druhý ročník neformálního koncertu Open Mic v tomto roce byl další skvělou ukázkou širokých hudebních dovedností a nasazení v ECP. Vystoupení měla škálu od souborů s dvanácti studenty až po sólová vystoupení. Vystoupili někteří noví umělci, kteří se mimořádně dobře vypořádali s působením v centru pozornosti, ale také četní zkušení hudebníci, kteří i nadále zajišťují, že večery s akcí Open Mic jsou plné nadšení.

V místě konání se sešla směs studentů, rodičů a učitelů, kteří si užívali večer s hudbou a občerstvením a přispěli svým dílem k udržení přátelské a zároveň energické atmosféry. I když jsme si pobyt v Salsita Clubu na posledních několika Open Micích opravdu užili, těšíme se, že příště náš Open Mic přesuneme do hotelu Fitzgerald. Uvidíme se tam!

ChangeMaker Week/Týden s inovacemi 

This year saw the continuation of our new scholarship team, the Changemaker Scholars, whose key focus is on innovation and disruption. Scholars at the college developed their leadership and organisation of a focus week in school. 

Our key partners this year were the Amazing Theatre of Physics (Úžasné divadlo fyziky) from the Institute of Physics and Technology whose show See the Sound, Hear the Lights is: “an award-winning audiovisual science show full of unusual musical instruments, weird lights and even weirder sounds we will get to bottom of how our ears work, what is even a tone and see that sound and light are truly inseparable. The Amazing Physics Theater (ÚDiF) is a group of enthusiasts who show the beauty of natural sciences to children and adults. For more than 15 years, we have been performing in schools. We have more than 200 performance days a year not only throughout the Czech Republic, but also in Europe. We do not want to show experiments just for their effects, instead we try to focus on one phenomenon and explore it using appropriate experiments., enabling students to work with a variety of emerging technologies during their break and lunch time.”

We also hosted workshops by Barbara Jagadics (Sustainable Textiles); Tom Zahradka (Green House Prototypes) and Antonin Muller (Mini Ecosystems). The overall aim of the week was to consider innovation in eco design and sustainability. This was also the second year a team from the college represented us at the Maker Faire in Vystaviště on Saturday 10th May. Maker Faire is the Czech Republic’s largest creative event for innovators, disruptors and inventors. 

V letošním roce pokračoval náš nový stipendijní tým inovátorů - Changemaker Scholars - se zaměřením na inovace a narušení změnou. Stipendisté ​​ECP rozvíjeli své vůdčí a organizační dovednosti v rámci týdne zaměřeného na inovace. Našimi klíčovými partnery v tomto školním roce bylo Úžasné divadlo fyziky z Institutu fyziky a technologie, jehož show See the Sound, Hear the Lights je „oceňovaná audiovizuální vědecká show plná neobvyklých hudebních nástrojů, podivných světel a ještě podivnějších zvuků. Dostaneme se k jádru toho, jak fungují naše uši, co je vůbec tón, a uvidíme, že zvuk a světlo jsou skutečně neoddělitelné. Úžasné divadlo fyziky (ÚDiF) je skupina nadšenců, kteří ukazují krásu přírodních věd dětem i dospělým. Více než 15 let vystupujeme ve školách. Máme více než 200 představení ročně nejen po celé České republice, ale i v Evropě. Nechceme ukazovat experimenty jen kvůli jejich účinkům, ale snažíme se zaměřit na jeden jev a prozkoumat ho pomocí vhodných experimentů, což studentům umožňuje pracovat s řadou nově vznikajících technologií během přestávek a obědové pauzy.“ 

Dále jsme pořádali workshopy Barbary Jagadics (Udržitelný textil), Toma Zahrádky (Prototypy zelených domů) a Antonína Mullera (Mini ekosystémy). Celkovým cílem tohoto týdne bylo zamyslet se nad inovacemi v ekodesignu a udržitelnosti. Tým z ECP nás také podruhé reprezentoval na veletrhu Maker Faire na Výstavišti dne 10. května. Maker Faire je největší kreativní akcí v České republice pro inovátory, převratné síly a vynálezce.
