GRIP Leadership Conference

Student Representative Council

Our Day at the GRIP Leadership Conference

Last week, five executives of the SRC had the opportunity to attend the GRIP Student Leadership Conference, where hundreds of student leaders had gathered from across Victoria.

While admittedly we were bracing ourselves for a long day of dry lectures, we were pleasantly surprised. Instead of just sitting and taking notes, we were thrown into a high-energy, interactive environment that proved leadership is much more than just a title.

The day revolved around a range leadership skills that we’re eager to bring back to campus. We spent time learning the real-world logistics of how to get a new idea off the ground and turn it into a reality for the school. We also worked on our public speaking, focusing on how to talk to a crowd without the nerves taking over, and practiced how to be friendly and connect with everyone we meet.

The five of us came away feeling inspired, and we don't want that energy to stop with us. We’re already working on a plan to run our own Leadership Training Day early next term. We want to share these techniques with all the student leaders across the school, helping everyone feel more confident in their roles. Our goal is to use what we’ve learned to help make our school an even better, more connected place for every student, and we can’t wait to get started.
