Term 1 Soirees

Continuing on from our last Newsletter, we've had  the String, Brass, Guitar, Voice & Percussion Soirees!  Incredibly a couple of students who walked 50km for the iCan Challenge on Wed came straight from the finish line, back to school to perform in their percussion Soiree!

The Vocal Soiree on Tuesday was an amazing night of performance. It was so incredible to see the year 12s perform their final Soiree, and the year 7s just begin their musical journey.

All the performers sang absolutely beautifully and it was evident that everyone practiced as much as they could. While there were quite a few unplanned absences due to illness, all students rose above it and gave the best performance they could.

A wide array of music was performed, ranging from contemporary and pop songs to music theatre to reimagined works. It was absolutely beautiful to see multiple year levels brought together by singing and music, and the community that was fostered on the night is something that cannot be replicated in the school yard.

I would like to thank the voice teachers Miss Hull, Miss Carolan, and Miss Myers for providing the voice students of wantirna college an incredible opportunity to just get up and perform, regardless of their age or amount of experience.

College Production

Last weekend, students attended our annual Production Camp at Candlebark Farm. They worked incredibly hard over two days, really putting in the effort to get the big ensemble numbers for Matilda the Musical right. Long blocks of time were spent rehearsing, going over choreography and timing, again and again, to make sure everything was tight and in sync.

It was great to see how they supported each other, stayed focused, and kept pushing even when they were tired. You can really see the improvement already, and their hard work is starting to pay off with much more confident and polished performances.

It’s exciting to see it all coming together and we're shaping up to be a fantastic show. A big thank you to parents for getting students there and supporting them over the weekend, and to the staff and volunteers for the time and effort they’ve put in to help students reach their goals.

Have you put Matilda on your Calendar yet?
