On Friday November 21st, our Year 7 Girls Cricket team made the long trek up to Wangaratta to compete in the State Quarterfinals. Thanks to some tidy bowling and disciplined fielding, we restricted Wangaratta to 5/86. During our innings, Wangaratta didn’t allow us to score easy runs either, but with patience and perseverance our girls managed to chase down their score and finish on 3/107.
The most pleasing aspect was the shared contribution from all players in the team. A big thank you to Mr Smyth for coming along and helping for the day as well. We now look forward to the State Finals on Thursday the 27th and see how far our girls can go!

Our year 8 baseballers once again did themselves and our school proud. The way they competed and worked cohesively as a unit was outstanding. Vermont were in a pool with Sandringham and Maribyrnong, in what could be argued were three of the strongest teams competing at State. We started out with a highly competitive game against Sandringham where we were able to get bat on ball plenty, but unfortunately our hits went to their fielders, whereas their hits managed to find the gaps resulting in a 2-8 loss for Vermont. We had good hits from Jordan, Albert and Jackson in this game, and a shout out to both Jordan and Aiden who pitched well with 7 strikeouts between them.
In our second game against the Maribyrnong was an outstanding contest, and very much a pitching dual. Tony was amazing on the mound, striking out 7 of the 14 batters he faced and allowing only 3 hits against a very strong side. Offensively our team showed great determination to get the hits going in the 3rd inning, and with some aggressive baserunning, were able to get a run across the plate. Going down to the eventual State Champs 1-3 showed just how competitive our team was, especially considering Maribyrnong scored a minimum of 8 runs in each of their other games.
Congratulations boys, be proud of your efforts, the sportsmanship and the team unity that you demonstrated throughout the year!
