Grade 5 News

Students have been highly engaged in their learning across Literacy and Mathematics in recent weeks.

In Literacy, the class has been exploring the text Waves by Donna Rawlins, using it as a springboard to develop an understanding of the many reasons people have journeyed to Australia. Through rich discussion and reflection, students have considered themes such as migration, hope, and new beginnings. They are now applying this understanding by creating their own narratives, imagining a character’s journey and the experiences, challenges, and emotions that come with it.

In Mathematics, students have begun their unit on probability. They are developing an understanding of the difference between fair and unfair experiments and are learning to describe outcomes using both theoretical and relative frequency. As part of this, students are representing probability as fractions and conducting simple experiments.

Congratulations to all Grade 5 students who proudly represented the school at the recent cross country event. Their effort, determination, and sportsmanship were commendable, and they should be very proud of their achievements.

We are also looking forward to the upcoming Winter Sports Carnival on the 24th of June. Further details will be shared soon, and we are excited for another opportunity for students to participate, compete, and enjoy being active together.
