Grade 1 News

Welcome to Week 8 in Grade 1!
In Maths, students have been working on representing addition and subtraction using materials and pictures. We have been practising using different strategies to solve number problems and explain our thinking.
In Literacy, students have been enjoying reading some of our beautiful picture books- last week, we loved reading our whole class book 'Captain Jack and the Pirates'. Students loved creating their own treasure chests of precious items. They have also been working hard practising tricky words as well as learning different digraphs and trigraphs. It has been wonderful to see students growing in confidence when reading and writing these sounds in words.
In Respectful Relationships with a focus on Problem-Solving, students played two cooperative games in small groups which required them to work together and describe the actions that helped their team work well together. Students were able to discuss how we can use these skills in the classroom or playground to make it a friendly and helpful place for everyone.
Please remember to bring a gold coin donation so that each class can purchase a blanket for the Vinnies Winter Appeal.
We love seeing all the reading happening at home- please keep up the great work sending reading diaries in!
