Vinnies Sleepout
St Augustine’s hosted a Vinnies Sleepout on 15 August to raise awareness of and funds for people experiencing homelessness. Thirty-eight boys took part, spending the night in solidarity with those suffering hardship. Together we raised an impressive $2600 to support Vinnies’ vital work in the community. I thank Mrs Roberts and Mr Halliday for coming along for the night as well as Mrs Cross for organising the event.
SRC clean-up
I also thank the 25 boys who supported the recent SRC clean-up event. Sadly, we picked up another 20 bags of rubbish from our own school grounds. Thank you to the gents who are doing the right thing! We are going to make it a focus to keep our college clean.
Feast of the Assumption
The Assumption Mass is a very special celebration of the Eucharist where we acknowledge that Mary, the mother of Jesus, was truly and justly taken from this earth to her heavenly resting place. We were lucky to be able to celebrate it in the cathedral on 14 August. The Mass was presided over by Fr George Santhosh and supported by Deacon Tony Moore. We focused on the hope and inspiration that Mary gives us at this college. Her overwhelming example of love for all that is good and for her humble approach to life gives us all something to strive for. Together as a college we pray:
Dear Lord, God of mercy, we rejoice because Mary, the mother of our Lord, was taken into the glory of heaven. May the Lord of life give us peace in our hearts and cause us to live in sincerity and truth. May the Creator of all that is good grant us a life marked by the faith, hope and love of Mary. May we go with the joyful spirit of Mary, to love and serve the Lord. Amen.
Immersion
We are in the process of selecting the students who will join the teaching team of Mrs Brunetto, Ms Fish and Mr Halliday for the Fijian Immersion in 2026. The interviews will take place in Week 9, and the list of selected students will be published by the end of term.
Prefect selection
The selection process has started. House captain speeches have been conducted and the College captain speeches will take place in Week 10. The announcement of all the prefects will occur in the Week 2 assembly next term.
