OLD BOYS

An Anniversary to Remember

As Mr Sievers has mentioned in his report, the Old Boys Association hosted the College’s 95th anniversary celebrations on 16 August. As well as the function on Saturday night, a number of Old Boys took the opportunity to tour the College. For many, this was the first time they had been back to Saints since graduating. A highlight for many was finding photos of themselves or their classmates among those on display from our archives, put together by Br Michael Haynes.

It was pleasing to note the number of fathers who attended the function on Saturday night with their sons. A special mention must go to Mr John Anich (Class of 1952) and his 4 sons from Mossman along with the 5 Cowan brothers who between them attended the College from 1961 to 1976.

One group of Old Boys who toured the College as part of our 95th celebrations. With memories of the their time at Saints, spanning from the 1950s through to the early 2000s, there were many funny stories told and conversations had about what subjects had been taught by which teachers in various classrooms.

I was recently contacted by Old Boy Thomas Liley (Class of 2010), a lieutenant commander in the RAN aboard HMAS Adelaide. Thomas very kindly offered to escort a group of our current students, interested in careers in the navy, around HMAS Adelaide when she was docked in Cairns recently.

Finally, the Senior Class of 1980 is planning a class reunion on the long weekend of 3–5 October. Anyone wishing to know more about the scheduled events, please email the organisers at classof80SAC@gmail.com
