Grade 6 Community News

Grade 6 have been working hard the past 2 weeks, we cannot believe we are half-way through the term already! We have still got lots to look forward to in this very busy term!
Reading:
We have been continuing with our reading of Boy. Grade 6 are really loving this biography this term. In week 5 and 6, we have been analysing figurative language such as hyperbole and cautionary tales as well as the rich vocabulary associated with the writing style of Roald Dahl.
Writing:
In Syntax, we have explored suffixes and complex sentences. During writing, Grade 6 have begun analysing biography writing. The students have investigated what makes a good biography as well as the features they are expected to include when they come to write their own. The students have also started to research a famous Aussie to write a biography about.
Maths:
In Mathematics, students have been working with fractions and decimals, building our understanding of how to compare and simplify them as well as finding equivalent fractions.
We have moved onto Decimals this week. Students are learning how our base ten number system extends beyond whole numbers to include decimals, such as tenths, hundredths, and thousandths. They are exploring how these decimals represent parts of a whole and how to add and subtract decimal numbers using clear strategies.
Sport:
Grade 6 Gala Day is happening next Wednesday, 4th June.
Please remember to check Compass to provide consent and payment if your child will be attending a sport off school grounds. If your child is participating in the sports clinics at school, payment and consent is still required, so please ensure this is completed on Compass as well. The cut-off for making payment and consent is 11.59pm next Tuesday, 3rd June.
Please ensure your child is appropriately dressed in their sporting uniform, as well as weather appropriate as of now the forecast is looking like rain.
