National Reconciliation Week!

Our school proudly joins communities across Australia in commemorating National Reconciliation Week—a time to reflect on our shared histories, cultures, and achievements, and to explore how each of us can contribute to achieving reconciliation in Australia.

The National Reconciliation Week (NRW) 2025 theme, Bridging Now to Next, reflects the ongoing connection between past, present and future.

Bridging Now to Next calls on all Australians to step forward together, to look ahead and continue the push forward as past lessons guide us.

In the #NRW2025 theme artwork created by Kalkadoon woman Bree Buttenshaw, native plants − which are known for regenerating after fire and thriving through adversity − symbolise our collective strength and the possibilities of renewal. This is a time for growth, reflection, and commitment to walking together.

Winter Wellness for Kids

As winter approaches across Australia, many families notice changes—not just in the weather, but in energy levels, mood, and routines. Cold mornings, shorter daylight hours, and wet weather can all affect children’s physical health and emotional wellbeing. Here are a few gentle reminders to help support your child this winter.

It’s easy for physical activity to drop during winter. Children may be less likely to play outside or walk to school when it’s cold or rainy. However, regular movement is still very important for both physical and mental health.

Why it matters:

Exercise supports concentration, sleep, and mood. It also helps reduce stress and builds resilience.

Try this:

Encourage indoor activities like dance, stretching/yoga, a quick basketball game, or family fitness challenges. If weather allows, even a brisk 15-minute walk outside after school can help lift your child’s mood.

Don’t Forget Vitamin D

During winter, many Australians don’t get enough sun exposure to maintain healthy vitamin D levels. This can lead to tiredness, low mood, and weaker bones.

What helps:

Spending a little time outdoors during daylight—especially in the late morning or early afternoon—can make a difference. A simple walk or play in the backyard can help boost vitamin D naturally. Speak with your GP if you’re concerned about low levels.

Final Thoughts

Winter is a time to slow down, but it doesn't have to be a time of low energy or mood. With a bit of movement, sunlight, and support, your child can thrive all year round.

Yarning Circle:

In week 5, we have been learning about clap sticks and have been designing our own! The children will be using traditional art to create a story with their clapsticks!! Keep an eye out for these awesome designs!! :)

Fun Run Club:

This term, the Wellbeing team and teachers have started running the Fun Run Club which is held at lunchtimes. Odds are on Tuesdays and Evens are on Fridays. We have been seeing a great turnout of students. Staff and students run 1km around the school during lunchtimes to burn off that extra energy. Both staff and students have been loving this so far and we look forward to continuing it.
