French News

Bonjour Parents and Students!

Over the past two weeks, students across all year levels have been participating in oral and written assessments to reflect on the topics we’ve covered in this term. It’s been a wonderful opportunity to observe their progress and confidence in using French in different contexts!

  • Prep students completed oral assessments over two weeks. These focused on the topics we've explored this year, including colours, numbers, days of the week, and letters. It was fantastic to hear them use their growing vocabulary with increasing fluency!

  • Grade 1 students undertook an oral assessment in the first week, followed by a written task in the second week to check their understanding across key concepts.

  • Grade 2 students completed a written assessment focused on family members, wild animals, and emotions. We also worked on a project titled “Me Voici” (All about me), where students filled in information about themselves in French, helping them personalise their learning and practise key phrases to describe who they are.

  • Grade 3 focus was on sports vocabulary. Students practised asking and answering the question: “Quel est ton sport préféré ?” (“What is your favourite sport?”)“Mon sport préféré est ___.” (“My favourite sport is ___.”) We then conducted a whole-class survey and used maths skills to create a class data chart based on their responses.
  • Grade 4 students learned numbers from 60 to 80 and discovered the unique structure of French numbers – for example, the number 70 is said as “soixante-dix” (60-10). They also completed an assessment to demonstrate their understanding of this concept.
  • Grades 5/6 students had the opportunity to choose their favourite topic from the year so far and created their own French surveys using Yes/No questions. They conducted interviews with classmates and presented their results. This activity allowed them to apply their French in a practical and meaningful way.

It’s wonderful to see all our students engaging so enthusiastically with their French learning! We are looking forward to even more progress and creativity throughout the term.
