Finding Our Heart- We have finished reading Finding Our Heart, an non-fiction picture story book.

This text taught us about the Uluru Statement from the Heart.

Book Review by Archie N 3C

Title: Finding Our Heart Author:

Thomas Mayo Finding our heart by Thomas mayo is about the Uluru statement and first nations people and how they looked after the land for thousands of years.

This picture book teaches us about Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture and their strong connection to the land. It demonstrates how first nations people lived happily with nature, baking bread and finding smart ways to survive. Their knowledge is very special. The story also explains that when colonisation happened people didn't listen carefully, and some people weren't treated very well.

The bright pictures use warm colours and dot paintings.

The author explains how the book asks everyone in Australia to understand that the true heart of the country comes from first nations people and their traditions.

I enjoyed reading Finding Our Heart because I learned more about Aboriginal people.

The message in this story is to pay more attention to other people's stories.

I liked page 6 because it has the Australian map on it.

This book made me feel sad because the Aboriginal people were given no respect.

I would recommend this book because it is a kid friendly way to learn about Aboriginal culture.

Our Incursion was on Monday 30th June.

Students enjoyed painting rocks, traditional dancing and boomerang throwing.

All the students were respectful and had a wonderful time.

In Mathematics the students have been using MAB/Base 10 blocks to solve 3 digit addition and subtraction equations with increasing difficulty. They can confidently add and subtract without regrouping and have been working hard to add and subtract with regrouping. We would love if this skill was continued at home.

Geography- As we wrap up our unit on Australia, Africa and South America we have combined knowledge with artistic expression, please have a look through our beautiful and character filled Llamas.
