Grade 6 News

Term 2 has been a fantastic one for our Year 6 students!

It’s been filled with a great balance of hard work and memorable experiences, including camp and the Cross-Country event.

Our students should feel incredibly proud of the way they’ve led throughout the term. They’ve shown maturity and responsibility, especially in embracing and consolidating the new routines introduced this year.

Their efforts and enthusiasm have truly set a positive tone for the rest of the school.

Literacy Focus – Personal Recounts

Over the past two weeks, our Year 6 students have been working on crafting personal recounts, using the mentor text Free Diving as a source of inspiration.

This beautifully written story opened up rich discussions about the experiences of Indigenous Australians in the pearling industry and the historical significance of pearl diving in Western Australia.

Through this unit, students explored key themes such as resilience, identity, and cultural heritage. They then used these ideas to guide their own writing, drawing on personal experiences and emotions to create thoughtful and reflective recounts.

This learning experience not only strengthened their writing skills but also deepened their understanding of Australia’s diverse history.

Maths Focus – Probability

In Maths, Year 6 students have been exploring the concept of probability through hands-on experiments and trials.

They’ve investigated the likelihood of different outcomes occurring and learned how to represent their findings using percentages and decimals. This unit has helped students build a deeper understanding of chance and data interpretation, while also strengthening their skills in analysing and communicating results clearly.

As Term 2 comes to a close, we’re incredibly proud of the growth, effort, and enthusiasm our Year 6 students have shown—here’s to a well-deserved break and an exciting Term 3 ahead!
