Athletics Day - Athletics day is scheduled for tomorrow (Wednesday), however the weather is being tricky, so stay tuned, it could change.

Book Week

Wowee! what a show! Many thanks to the families who helped support their children in making our dress up day a success! In year 4 we read "A Loo of One's Own", a true story of how women went for 30 years of not having a toilet at Parliament House. We were fascinated!

Paisley Day

With great sadness we farewell our good friend Paisley who will be moving to Gippsland with her family this week. We had a lovely day taking in a movie and making sure Paisley enjoyed her special day. We will miss her kindness, laughter and wonderful smile. We wish her every happiness at your new school and hope she makes many fantastic new friends!

Readers 

Let's get back into the swing of nightly reading. I know it's been a bit tricky with extra sporting activities with the footy and netball season, however just 10 minutes each night can really make a difference.

English

Reading - This term we have read the muchly anticipated text 'Storm Boy' by Colin Thiele. The story follows a young boy who lives with his father on the remote South Australian coast. He forms a special friendship with a pelican named Mr Percival. Together, they experience adventure, loyalty and loss, while Storm Boy develops a deep understanding of nature, friendship and compassion.

Writing - Information Reports & Note Taking. 

Students explored Storm Boy by Colin Thiele to learn about native animals found in the Coorong. They identified and discussed the animals featured in the story and researched additional information about their habitats, features and behaviours. Students recorded key facts in organised notes, using these to plan and prepare an informative report about a native animal.

Spelling - Schwa

A schwa is the most common vowel sound in spoken English. In Spellex, students learn that the schwa sound is an unstressed vowel sound that can sound like a soft “uh”, such as the first sound in about or the middle sound in pencil. The schwa can be represented by different vowel letters, including a, e, i, o, u and sometimes y, making some words difficult to spell. Students develop their spelling skills by listening carefully to the sounds in words, identifying the schwa, and learning the correct letter patterns used to represent it.

Mathematics

Multiplication - Students have been learning how to use vertical algorithms to multiply one- and two-digit numbers. This involves writing numbers underneath each other and working through the multiplication step by step. Students have been practising how to line up numbers correctly, multiply each part and combine their answers to find the total.

Angles - Students explored different types of angles, including acute, right, obtuse and reflex angles. They learned to identify and classify angles based on their size, comparing them to a right angle to determine whether they were smaller, equal to or larger than a right angle. Students practised identifying angles in everyday objects and shapes and used mathematical language to explain their reasoning.

Fractions - Students will explore equivalent fractions by learning that different fractions can represent the same amount. They will use visual models, such as fraction walls and diagrams, to identify equivalent fractions and explain how they are connected.

Inquiry

Colour - Students learnt how colour is formed when light passes through materials such as water and glass. They explored how white light is made up of many different colours and discovered that when light passes through water or glass, it can bend and separate into these colours. Students also explored how the cones and rods in our eyes help us see and recognise colour and light.

Religion 

Students explored the story of the Good Samaritan to understand what it means to love our neighbour. They discussed how the Good Samaritan showed kindness, care and compassion to someone in need, even though he did not know him. Students reflected on how they can follow this example by helping others, including everyone, showing kindness and treating people with respect.
