Healthy Eating in Year 1 EAL

Students recently celebrated their learning about healthy nutrition, with a fun and hands-on fruit skewer activity. As part of their studies, students have been exploring the importance of eating a balanced diet to help keep their bodies healthy. They then had the opportunity to create their own colourful fruit skewers using fresh fruits. It was wonderful to see everyone tasting different fruits and enjoying a delicious, nutritious treat to conclude their learning. Hopefully students will choose to include fruit skewers in their lunch boxes from now on!

Victorian Coding Challenge

Last Thursday, select Year 5 & 6 students commenced their first lesson in the Victorian Coding Challenge. The Victorian Coding Challenge is an eight part online program that builds students confidence, creativity, and computational thinking skills. Each module engages students in structured, multi criterion coding briefs with conflicting constraints. Students learn to frame and decompose problems, iterate through potential strategies, and justify their solutions using formal reasoning, evaluation, and reflective practice. Tasks foster authentic problem solving skills as students develop and refine their digital solutions.

The Challenge aims to extend students digital capability and problem solving skills while strengthening pathways into future STEM learning. It provides a rich opportunity to extend problem-solving, reasoning, and computational thinking through authentic tasks that embed mathematics in meaningful ways.

Great Ryrie is excited to provide our students with the opportunity to participate in such an engaging and challenging course that allows them develop and showcase their capabilities in an immersive experience!
