Recently, a group of Great Ryrie Primary School students had the privilege of participating in The Long Walk, hosted by Aquinas College. The event brought together students, staff, and community members from a range of local schools to reflect on the importance of

reconciliation and our shared journey towards a more inclusive Australia.

The morning began with a wonderful gathering that included a delicious morning tea featuring locally sourced produce. With more than 150 guests in attendance, alongside the Aquinas College community, the event provided a meaningful opportunity to connect, learn, and walk together.

A highlight of the day was hearing from Jack Peris of The Long Walk Foundation. Jack spoke passionately about this year's theme, encouraging everyone to go "All In" for reconciliation. His message challenged us to consider how we can each contribute to building stronger relationships, respect, and understanding between Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and the wider Australian community.

Following the walk, our students were fortunate to spend time speaking with Jack and asking thoughtful questions. Through these conversations, they gained a deeper understanding of his family's story and the lasting impact of the Stolen Generations. It was a powerful learning experience that encouraged empathy, reflection, and meaningful discussion.

We thank Aquinas College for their generous hospitality and for providing such an important opportunity for our students to engage with the message of reconciliation in a genuine and memorable way.
