Congratulations to our Year 9 students who successfully completed their White Card course. This nationally recognised certification is a vital first step for anyone wanting to work in the construction industry and our students are now officially site-ready!
The course covered essential safety practices, risk awareness, and responsibilities on a worksite. We’re incredibly proud of their engagement, maturity, and enthusiasm shown throughout the day.
Last week, our Year 9 students had the opportunity to attend a powerful and thought-provoking presentation from the Pat Cronin Foundation, an organisation dedicated to ending the coward punch through education and awareness. During the presentation, students listened intently as the speaker shared Pat’s story, explored the consequences of violence, and challenged young people to make wise, respectful decisions in difficult social situations. The session also explored the ripple effect of violence, not just on victims, but on families, friends, and entire communities.
We are thrilled to share the launch of our brand-new Year 9 Achievement Wall, proudly displayed in the Year 9 corridor. This colourful and inspiring wall showcases the faces of our students who have gone above and beyond in their learning, leadership, attitude, or contributions to our school community.
The wall features individual photos of students who have been recognised by their efforts for demonstrating our school values—whether it’s showing resilience in a tough subject, supporting a peer, leading by example, or putting in consistent effort over the term.
A big thankyou to our amazing maintenance team for bringing this beautiful wall to life!
The Work Inspirations Programme was run by the Smith Family for Bairnsdale Secondary College over the course of two days. Eleven Year 9 students participated in the programme and visited five businesses: Dahlsens; the Department of Energy, Environment and Climate Action (DEECA); Bunnings; Kennedy’s Trailers; and Wyanga Park Winery. During the visits the students gained valuable insights about how businesses operate and the different roles and responsibilities within each workplace.
Graeme at Dahlsens described the intricacies of building homes. The students were fascinated by process of making roof trusses. They had hands-on experience building a small house.
During their trip to Bunnings, the students explored how the store operates. They discovered how work in different departments throughout the store can give a lot of breadth in terms of career focus in the one company.
Kennedy’s Trailers was a favourite among the students as they learned about the production of trailers for trucks. They got to see all aspects of trailer production, including where the parts come from, and learned that the trailers are not only made for local use but are also exported to companies overseas.
Wear It Purple Day, an annual LGBTQIA+ awareness campaign dedicated to creating safe and inclusive environments for LGBTIQA+ young people. The day was founded in response to stories of bullying and harassment of young people due to their identity. By wearing purple, people demonstrate to young people that they are celebrated, respected and have the right to be proud of who they are.
The countdown is on! Our much-anticipated Year 9 Melbourne Day Trips are fast approaching, with the first trip taking place next Tuesday 2nd September. This exciting excursion offers students the chance to explore Melbourne’s vibrant city culture, experience hands-on learning, and create memories with friends outside the classroom.
