Celebrating 80 Years of Book Week at Bairnsdale Secondary College

This year marks a very special milestone, 80 years of the Children’s Book Council of Australia’s Book Week. For nearly a century, Book Week has inspired readers of all ages to celebrate the joy, adventure, and imagination found within the pages of a book.

At Bairnsdale Secondary College, our staff joined in the festivities by taking part in a Silent Dress-Up Day, where teachers surprised students by arriving in costume as their favourite book characters. From classic heroes to mischievous villains, the day was filled with colour, creativity, and plenty of laughter as students tried to guess who was behind each disguise.

Book Week reminds us all that stories are more than words on a page, they are adventures waiting to be explored. We are proud to celebrate this legacy with our school community and look forward to continuing the tradition of sharing the magic of books for many more years to come.

Book making

To celebrate Book Week at the library, we enjoyed some crafting time. Students made personalised notebooks: choosing their cover art, the font of their notes pages, and their back cover. Learning to use the binding machine and enjoying decorating the covers was lots of fun for all! The students were very pleased with their end products, deservedly so, they look beautiful!

Robotics activities

For the rest of Term 3 we have four VEX EXP robotics kits that we are building and modifying in the library at lunchtimes in order to solve various problems and play various games. If you are interested, come to the library during any break 2 and join the fun:
