This term, our Year 12 VCE-VM students have been actively involved in a wide range of community-focused projects, from hosting a burger day fundraiser for a local women’s shelter and a pasta lunch for staff, to running a pet drive for Animal Aid and a footy clinic with under-11s. They’ve supported Meals on Wheels, prepared meals for Neighbourhood House, assisted Landcare with conservation efforts, and cooked favourite dishes alongside disabled community members. Students have also made homemade dog treats for donation, created activity bags for BRHS’s paediatric department, volunteered with animal rescue groups, led art workshops, and designed a wellness garden—complete with a frog hotel—at a local primary school. Their compassion, creativity and initiative have truly shone.
As we get closer to the end of Term 3, we celebrate a major milestone for many students who have completed all VCE requirements—including VCE Vocational Major students and those not sitting end-of-year exams. For them, this marks the end of their secondary schooling journey.
Congratulations! We’re incredibly proud of everything you’ve achieved. As you step into this exciting new chapter—whether it's an apprenticeship, full-time work, or tertiary studies—we wish you every success and happiness. The future is wide open, and the possibilities are endless!
Please find below a letter with important information regarding dates and Graduation.
Year 12 Graduation Wednesday 19th November
BSC is proud to share an update on our 2025 Rural Youth Ambassador, Thomas, who has already attended two forums in Melbourne this year, representing our school and rural students across Victoria.
At the Department of Education, Thomas discussed the issues rural students face and heard about potential solutions. He found it eye-opening to see how policies and programs are created and gained valuable skills in respectfully challenging ideas to achieve the best outcomes for as many students as possible.
Thomas also met with other youth organisations, including the VicSRC, learning how they can support the Rural Youth Ambassadors in their projects. Working alongside three students from other rural schools, Thomas is developing a project focused on student voice and leadership. His aim is to find ways for the Department to better support schools in embedding student voice into everyday learning and leadership opportunities. To inform this work, Thomas attends BSC’s SRC meetings, gathering feedback from our student leaders to take back to the Department.
The forums also provide opportunities for connection and fun. Thomas enjoyed meeting other like-minded ambassadors from across the state, sharing a passion for improving access to rural education. Each forum includes a surprise evening activity – so far, these have included bowling and escape rooms. In true BSC style, Thomas claimed victory at bowling and successfully escaped the room!
The next forum promises another exciting challenge, with a visit to Parliament House and presentations to the Department of Education. We look forward to sharing more about Thomas’ work in the next two forums.
Engineering Precision in VCE-VM Numeracy
As part of the Year 11 VCE-VM Numeracy program, Will recently completed a micro-project that exemplifies the academic depth and applied learning embedded in the Mathematics Problem-Solving Cycle. His chosen task, Building a Model Bridge, required him to plan, measure, construct, test and communicate using real-world mathematical strategies.
Working with scaled materials and precise instruments including rulers and protractors, Will designed a bridge capable of withstanding over 40 kilograms of weight before structural failure. This wasn’t just a craft exercise, it was a rigorous exploration of geometry, load distribution, and material properties. Throughout the project, Will documented his process, evaluated performance outcomes, and presented his findings with clarity and insight.
Projects like this demonstrate the intellectual challenge and civic relevance of VCE-VM Numeracy. They empower students to apply mathematical thinking to authentic problems, bridging the gap between classroom learning and real-world capability.
12 VCE Food Studies
Students made apple tarte tatin with custard.
Year 10 Textiles Design
Students are currently making Identity hoodies. They were cutting out their hoodies or doing hand embroidery.
Year 10 System Design
Students have been hard at work building their very own 1/8 off-road RC buggies. Below are some proud students showing off their completed creations. Now the big question is... who will be the fastest? Let the races begin!
SBAT - School Based Apprenticeship or Traineeship
Congratulations to Ash, who recently completed his SBAT with Reece Plumbing! A School-Based Apprenticeship or Traineeship (SBAT) gives secondary students the opportunity to gain hands-on industry experience and nationally recognised qualifications—all while finishing their secondary education.
A huge thank you to Reece Plumbing and to all the amazing local businesses in our community who support our students and make opportunities like this possible. Your involvement truly makes a difference!
