Principal's Message

Hello everyone,
As we approach the end of term, and the days are getting longer, the sun is lingering a little later, it's a joy to see our staff and students making the most of it—spending their breaks outdoors, enjoying the fresh air, playing games, and sharing conversations.
It’s an absolute pleasure to witness and be part of such a vibrant and connected school community.
VCAA NAPLAN Reporting and Data Service PD Day
Last Friday, I had the opportunity to attend the VCAA NAPLAN Reporting and Data Service Professional Development Day.
It was a valuable day of professional learning and a wonderful opportunity to connect with other principals from across the region. The sessions provided meaningful insight into how we can more effectively use data to inform teaching and learning — with a strong focus on improving outcomes for ALL students. I look forward to sharing key takeaways with our staff.
Work Inspirations
This week, The Smith Family and Bairnsdale Secondary College once again provided a select group of Year 9 students with an exclusive opportunity to explore and learn about local businesses including Dahlsens, DEECA, Bunnings, Kennedy Trailers, and Wyanga Winery. I would like to thank The Smith Family and our local business community for their support of our BSC students.
A huge thank you to the businesses that opened their doors and gave our students this fantastic chance to gain first-hand experience — they absolutely loved it!
R U OK? Day – Out of Uniform Fundraiser
Date: Thursday September 11th
Our Student Representative Council (SRC) has been working hard to organise a fundraiser and activities on the day to support R U OK? Day, a national day dedicated to mental health awareness and encouraging meaningful conversations.
To mark this important day, students are invited to come to school out of uniform with a splash of yellow to show their support. We kindly ask all students who participate to bring a gold coin donation.
💛 The SRC has set an ambitious goal to raise $1,000 for this vital cause. 💛
To help us reach our goal, you can also donate online using the following link:
Let’s come together to support each other, raise awareness, and start conversations that could change lives.
"The R U OK? mission is to inspire and empower people to meaningfully connect with those in their world and lend support when they are struggling with life.
Your support will help us to give more people the tools and confidence to ask "are you OK?" any day." Source: https://www.ruok.org.au/
School Council
Last week, we held our most recent School Council meeting, bringing together a dedicated group of parents, staff and students. It was a highly productive evening, marked by valuable strategic discussions focused on student wellbeing, student learning, facilities, and finance.
We are incredibly grateful to our School Council members, who consistently conduct themselves with professionalism and a strong sense of moral purpose. Their thoughtful, considered, and meaningful contributions play a vital role in shaping informed decisions that benefit our entire school community.
We thank all members for generously giving their time and expertise in support of our College’s ongoing growth and success.
We Value Your Feedback – Parent/Caregiver/Guardian Opinion Survey
As part of our ongoing commitment to improving our school community, we are inviting you to participate in the annual Parent/Caregiver/Guardian Opinion Survey, provided by the Department of Education.
This important survey helps us gain valuable insights into your perceptions of our school’s climate, student behaviour, and student engagement. Your feedback plays a vital role in shaping our priorities and planning for the future.
You should have received an invitation to complete the survey via email. If you are unable to locate the invite or have not received it, please don’t hesitate to contact us—we will be happy to resend it
Sincerely,
Tony Roberts
